So, who is getting the shaft once again?

A reader submitted these numbers as an example:

Certain members of the workforce received a 45 cents per hour increase in salary for 2016.  Now, multiply that 45 cents per hour raise by 2080 hours worked during the year. That translates into a increase of 936 dollars per year.

Now, for the sake of argument, let us use an annual average salary of 50,000 dollars a year. Multiply that 50,000 dollars by the full membership dues rate of 2.3 percent. That results in the union collecting a dollar amount of 1,150 dollars a year. If you use the same annual salary number multiplied by the agency dues rate of 1.74 percent, the dollar amount paid in dues is now 870 dollars per year. Are you getting the picture yet?

Now on top of that, multiply the annual rate of inflation as of the end of February 2016, which was 1.02 percent.  That results in a loss of buying power of 510 dollars a year. Are you feeling the love?

Folks, no matter how you slice it we are all getting the shaft big time!

The only ones who are coming out ahead are SEIU and Covenant Aviation.  Where's the integrity here to do the right thing?

The mission of Covenant Aviation is to make as much money as possible at the expense of the workforce!
Once again, should a for-profit company, whose main objective is to make as much money as possible, be responsible for providing "world class customer service and safety"?

What They Didn't Tell You!

Several weeks ago, Jeff Pugh brazenly announced that CAS had the cash to give us all raises.  Incoming president Mike Boles stated that he wanted to have this new CBA in place by the beginning of August because: " the hard working men and women at SFO deserve nothing less."

What they didn't tell you was that the money for your raises was coming from the "givebacks" that the company wants to implement.

Boles wants you to focus on the 2.1% wage increase and nothing else.  He doesn't want you to focus on "double time" pay when you work on a holiday.  He doesn't want you to focus on the 15 minute break per 4 hours of work.  (The employees who work 10 hours lose a 15 minute break!)

He doesn't want you to focus on the cost to you if you get admitted to a hospital.  The first 1,000 dollars comes out of your pocket, and then you pay 20% of any additional charges up to a maximum of 3,000 dollars a year -- for a single employee, that is.  The maximum is 6,000 dollars for an employee with a family.

All this comes at the same time that they want you to show " world class customer service."  With the atmosphere that this company has created, can they really expect any employee to smile?

If this offer doesn't show you just how this company really feels about their employees, what will?

This company is stooping to new lows in their effort to increase their "profit" margin!

As long as we continue to.....

perform the duties and responsibilities of an LTSO without getting paid the company will, no doubt, feel that promoting new Leads are not necessary. The company is counting on our stepping up and performing these duties while not getting paid.

How much longer do you think that the company can continue to violate the SOP? If they can somehow prove to the local TSA that there is no real need to promote what do you think they will do? These positions are already in the budget. We are sure that they will put this money to good use. Do you think that it will trickle down to us?

So, when you wonder why the company is no longer bumping people up to "acting" Lead look to yourself for the answer. You are only hurting yourself and are making promotional opportunities more scarce.

Stop stepping up without getting paid!

Covenant Aviation Security Seeks Qualified Baggage Instructor

If you remember, a couple weeks ago we posted about a baggage instructor position being opened to all baggage certified people. Well, the deadline has come and gone and they have reposted the position.

One wonders why this is. Is it because, unlike TSA, this position is for no additional money? Or is it because we already have two extremely qualified people that perform these duties, once again, for no additional money? Or perhaps they didn't get the right candidate to apply?

The other odd thing about this posting is that it is opened to supervisors. The word on the street is that supervisors are apparently too expensive. So why is it opened to them? Then again, Leads were apparently too expensive to be doing recruiting and that hasn't stopped them from continuing to use Leads in that function.

But hey, if the rumors are true, none of this should be an issue at the beginning of the year when supervisors may once again be denied a raise. Don't worry, the precious management team at Covenant Aviation Security will take one for the team with the denial of a raise if it does happen.
